What a Cellubrite result is, what it is not, and the limits of measuring anything from a drop of blood collected at your kitchen table.

01The short version

Read this before you act on a result

Cellubrite provides laboratory testing for wellness, informational and educational purposes. A result is not a diagnosis, it is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for the care of a qualified healthcare provider. Take your results to a provider before you change anything about your health. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

This page forms part of our Terms of Use and Sale. It is written to be read rather than to be survived, and it is short because the things it says matter.

02We are not your doctor

Cellubrite Inc. is a healthcare technology company. We are not a laboratory and we are not a medical provider. Buying a panel, using this site, using the app, or receiving a result does not create a doctor-patient relationship between you and Cellubrite or anyone working for it.

Your sample is processed by an accredited CLIA-certified partner laboratory under that laboratory's own quality procedures and its own professional obligations. The laboratory reports a result. It does not become your treating provider either.

Our support team can help with orders, kits, registration and access to your results. They cannot interpret a result, tell you what it means for you, or tell you what to do about it. That is not them being unhelpful. It is them not practising medicine.

03A result is not a diagnosis

A blood panel returns each marker, its value, its unit and its reference range. That is a measurement, not a conclusion. A value outside a reference range is not by itself a disease, and a value inside one does not rule anything out. Reference ranges are population statistics, and by construction a proportion of healthy people fall outside them.

Interpreting a measurement requires everything we do not have: your history, your symptoms, your medications, your family history, an examination, and usually more than one measurement over time. That is the job of a clinician, and it is why we show you the number and the range rather than a verdict.

Do not start, stop or change any medication, supplement, diet or treatment on the basis of a result from us without talking to a provider first. Stopping a prescribed medicine because of a number on a screen is the specific harm this page exists to prevent.

04What at-home collection can and cannot do

Being honest about the method matters more than reassuring you about it.

  • Capillary collection by finger-prick is not suitable for every biomarker. A marker only appears in a blood panel where it is validated for finger-prick collection, which is why our panels do not test everything a venous draw could.
  • Collection technique, timing, fasting where a panel requires it, and how quickly the sample gets back into the post all affect the result. A sample handled badly can produce a value that is wrong rather than a value that is missing.
  • Some samples cannot be processed at all. That is a normal outcome, not a failure on your part, and we replace the kit at no charge.
  • A panel tests what is listed in the panel. It does not screen for anything else, and a normal result on one panel says nothing about anything it did not measure.
  • We do not publish a single accuracy percentage, because one figure spanning dozens of different assays would be meaningless. Anyone quoting you one for a whole panel is quoting you a number that does not mean what it appears to.

05This is not for anything urgent

Nobody is watching your results for you

There is no clinician monitoring your results for an urgent finding, and there is no process by which Cellubrite telephones you about one. Results appear in your account and wait for you to open them. Do not use this service if you need an answer urgently, if you have symptoms that need attention now, or in place of care from someone who can act on what they find.

If you have symptoms that worry you, see a provider now rather than waiting for a panel to come back. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Do not wait for a result, and do not let a normal result already in hand talk you out of going.

06Genomic panels, specifically

Genomic results are not a value in a range, and everything above applies to them differently. They are not diagnostic, they are not clinical genetic testing, and they are not a substitute for testing ordered and interpreted by a provider or a genetic counselor.

A genomic panel tests specific named variants. It is not a whole-genome test, and not finding a variant we did not test for is not the same as not having it. A result that suggests increased risk is not a prediction that you will develop something, and a result that does not is not protection.

Genomic results also do not change, they say something about your biological relatives, and they cannot be unlearned. The consent and limitations notice covers that in full, including the APOE variant in the Methylation Genomic Panel and the limits of federal genetic non-discrimination law. Read it before you order a genomic panel, not after.

07Taking a result to your own provider

Your full results carry the marker, the value, the unit and the reference range, which is what a clinician needs to make sense of them. You can download them and take them to whoever you like.

Whether a clinician acts on a result from outside their own ordering system is their professional judgement. Some will repeat the test through their own laboratory before acting, which is a reasonable thing for them to do and not a criticism of the result. We are not going to promise you that any provider will accept these results, because that promise is not ours to make.

08If you are unsure

If you are unsure whether a panel is right for you, ask a healthcare provider before you buy rather than after. If you have a question about an order, a kit or getting to your results, write to support@cellubritehealth.com and we will help with that part.
